6th Annual Crossing the Delaware April 21, 2018
Hosted by brother and sister team Sam Childs and Hannah Childs
Put in: 7am at Joy Springs Park west of Strawberry Point, IA Take out: time? As far as we can paddle down the Maquoketa River or Hoeger’s Bridge (Pioneer Road Access) south of Delhi off Hwy 38, whichever comes first. Approximate distance from Joy Springs to Hoeger’s Bridge is 43 river miles.
*Current water level the day of the paddle will affect how far up we can put in. This will be determined the evening before the paddle as river levels fluctuate.
Set your own shuttle for the entire length or choose any section of the Maquoketa river in Delaware County and meet us out there.
*The upper 10 miles from Joy Springs Park to Backbone Lake require experienced paddling skills. The current is swift with many strainers, sweepers, and fences. You must have river paddling experience to avoid an unpleasant out-of-boat experience.
