“Stand Up Paddleboard” Demonstration @ Cold Springs Park, Cass County @ Cold Springs Park- Beach

The Cass County Conservation Board is holding “Stand Up Paddleboard” Demonstration! The public demonstration will be held on Saturday August 31st 9AM & at 10:30AM- Cold Springs Park- Beach FREE!

SUP is the fastest growing sport in the paddling community not only across the country, but especially right here in land-locked areas like Iowa. It’s fun, healthy as a total body work-out and offers a unique perspective when it comes to being on the water. After a quick demonstration try out the boards for yourself! If you do not bring a life jacket one will be provided to you.

Children must be 16 years or older. Paddler must weigh LESS than 250 LBS.

Our Stand Up Paddleboard programs will be on the last Saturday of every month, Ending after Labor Day Weekend on Saturday September 7th.

Nick’s Annual “Half Chicken Dinner Float,” Turkey River

Annual “Half Chicken Dinner Float,” Turkey River.  Meet at Elgin Campground at 9:30 on river left.  12 mile paddle.  Paddle from Elgin Campground to Frieden Park.

Paddle event will be followed by chicken dinner at the Wadena Fire Station, serving starts at 5:30 pm.   There is a cost for the chicken dinner as a fundraiser for the Wadena Fire Dept.

Join  Jones County Conservation for Central Lake’s Grand Opening on:

Thursday, Sept 5 from 5-7:30 p.m.

Activities include:

live music, ribbon cutting at 5:30 at fishing pier, fishing tackle give- a- way, educational booths,  free paddle board and kayak rentals.

be enjoyed by individuals or the whole family. The CrawDaddy fleet of 16+ kayaks provides
options for every kayaking interest from river floats to specialized fishing kayaks. Visit our web-
site for specific models or call the store to request a demo of a model. Be sure to demo paddles
and PFD’s to round out your kayak purchase.

Located at Avenue of the Saints Lake, rural Waverly. This is located 1 mile west of the Hwy 3
and Hwy 218 intersection. Turn south on Aspen Avenue and follow the gravel until you reach
the lake.

Wapsipinicon River Fall Float with Linn County Conservation @ Pinicon Ridge Park

Late Summer Wapsi Float

Join Naturalist Chuck Ungs and others on a scenic float of the Wapsipinicon River. The float is scheduled near the end of summer. You will also be treated to unique views of Pinicon Ridge Park as well as the MaryLundby Bridge from the Wapsi. We will have a chance to view a wide variety of wildlife from the river.  Participants are responsible for their own boats, gear and lifejackets.  Pack water, a lunch or snacks, and dress for the weather. Catfishing Basics @Yellow Banks Park , Polk County @ Yellow Banks Park Boat Ramp

Come learn about the different kinds of catfish, how big they actually get, and tips on catching them. We will then fish the Des Moines River and try to catch catfish. Bait and poles will be provided but, feel free to bring your own gear. Fishing license is required for participants 16 years of age and older.

Disabled Veteran Kayaking/Canoeing event at Riverside @ Riverside Casino

Sep 11; Disabled Veteran Kayaking/Canoeing event at Riverside. Volunteer-led opportunity for disabled Vets to experience paddling during the VA National TEE (Train, Expose, Experience) Tournament. Needs new Volunteer Coordinator for 2019. Contact Tom Sabotta  tsabott@gmail.com

Held on sand pit lake across Hwy 22 from Riverside Casino, which is east of Hwy 218/27. Volunteer-led opportunity for disabled Vets to experience paddling, often for the first time. Volunteers loan boats and gear, provide informal coaching, camaraderie, and safety presence. Paddling is an “enhanced activity” offered as part of the VA National TEE (Train, Expose, Experience) Tournament, which promotes rehabilitation by instructing veterans with visual impairments and other life-changing disabilities in adaptive golf and additonal adaptive recreational sports. Volunteers & boats needed; contact Volunteer Coordinator Tom Sabotta  tsabott@gmail.com .
