Join CanoeSport Outfitters for an overnight canoe and kayak camping trip on the Raccoon River. The trip will begin at Adel Island Park where we’ll discuss packing your canoe or kayak. On the water CanoeSport will handle group safety, provide paddling tips, and select a sand bar for camping. We’ll discuss camping methods and share some tips from our years of guiding to remote locations. Around a fire we can share some stories and have s’mores. In the morning we’ll have breakfast and wrap up the trip at Walnut Woods State Park.
River Kayaking Fundamental I or River Canoeing Fundamentals I.
What To Bring
Bring your paddling and camping gear or rent it from CanoeSport Outfitters. If you bring your own kayak be sure it has enough space for all required gear and bow and stern bulkheads. Don’t forget your camping gear, food, and personal items all in dry bags. CanoeSport has a limited supply of camping gear available for rent. We’ll provide a more detailed list of suggested equipment prior to the class.
Meet Saturday morning at Walnut Woods State Park (take-out). Arrange a shuttle of gear and boats to Adel Island Park and Campground. Pack up our gear and set off down river. Enjoy the scenery and wildlife of the Raccoon River. We’ll stop periodically on sand bars for a swim, lunch, and to explore the shore line. Saturday night we’ll camp in the vicinity of Van Meter/Booneville (approximately 1/2 way). Sunday we’ll enjoy a sand bar breakfast and continue our journey down river arriving at our take out mid afternoon.
